Good Questions...
Firstly, let me say that nothing beats ADnD when everyone is in the same room...but hey the reason this site is here is cause I find it difficult to get time for that to happen, plus we are all over the world....so makes it difficult.
Secondly, I don't know if this will work, but I am willing to give it a go...
The way I see it is that a time is organised for everyone to be online, everyone enters the appropriate thread of the adventure or campaign being played. The chat box is used, or perhaps and IM conference for regular banter and discussion back and forth. The thread itself is for the actual play...that is once a decision has been made by the players or something happen that requires the DM to inform the players, this is what is entered into the thread...the DM is just going to have to keep and eye on what is going on...
The dice is simple...this forum has a dice button...if you look up at the top right of the message you are writing you will see what looks like a 6-sided dice image....when that image is clicked a drop down box appears asking for which dice you would like to roll, when you have selected the dice you wish to roll the
is placed in your message, you click send and an automated response comes back as a message in the thread informing you of the result....I think it should work well...hope that answers your questions...
Here is an example of a Dice Roll
1. I want to roll a 8 Hit Die twice
2. Click the Dice Icon and choose the 8d
3. this is what appears in the message I am writing roll="8d] ? [/roll]
4. put the number 2 where the cursor is within the bbcode (in this case the ? and click send, you will see the result in the message you have posted. (see the result is below this line)
